Far North Retreats

Who i am, and why i do this

My name is Liberty Henderson. I founded The Far North, a grief resilience and community wellness company in 2021 while living in Alaska.

My life was forever changed by the loss of my brother to homicide in 1997. I was 16 years old. He was 21. The suddenness and violence of his death created a rupture that rippled through every part of my world, leading me into years of unresolved grief, unanswered questions, and the long, quiet work of learning how to live in the aftermath of trauma.

In time, that experience would become the very foundation of the work I now devote my life to.

It wasn’t until 2018, when I was invited to share my story with inmates at Alaska’s maximum-security prison, that I experienced the profound impact of post-traumatic growth and the transformative potential of restorative justice.

That pivotal moment sparked a deep calling to support others in navigating the complex aftermath of homicide. Since then, I have dedicated myself to this mission through victim advocacy, prison outreach, and community wellness. In late 2023, I sold my coffee shop in Alaska, 13 Ravens Coffee House, to focus my time, energy, and heart entirely on The Far North.

A nationally credentialed victim advocate, I bring expertise in grief counseling, trauma-informed care, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). My qualifications also include certifications in grief journaling, trauma-aware facilitation, mass violence preparedness, forest therapy, and sound healing.

Work with me

Grief after homicide can feel isolating in ways that are impossible to put into words. If you’ve lost someone to violence, you don’t have to carry it alone.

The Far North offers a range of support for homicide survivors, grounded in lived experience, presence, and deep respect for your story.

From grief and bereavement counseling and support groups to sound baths, forest bathing, and remembrance events, The Far North offers spaces for both private support and community connection.

Here, your experience is understood, because it's my path as well.

You don’t need to have the right words.
You don’t need to be ready for anything more than showing up.

You don’t need to explain the weight you’re carrying, or make it make sense.

Together, we will make room for the complexity of your experience, at your pace.

Whether your loss is recent or many years behind you, you are welcome at The Far North.
