Far North Retreats was born from trauma. When Founder Liberty Miller lost her brother to homicide in 1997 she spent decades silencing her pain. It wasn't until 2018 that she was shown the true power of her story, when she was asked to speak to prisoners at Alaska's maximum-security prison. There, within those concrete walls and razor wire, she discovered her true passion, and what she feels to be her life's purpose - restorative justice. Since then, her journey has taken her on a path of prison volunteering, restorative justice advocacy, and forgiveness.
Liberty is certified as a grief counselor, an ACE's instructor, and a life coach.

"Liberty's passion for restorative justice and forgiveness shines through her personal experience. Her participation in the victim/offender dialogue program not only helped her heal and move forward, but also helped heal her brother's offender before he re-entered the community. She has developed amazing professional relationships in the restorative justice community by openly sharing her story and just simply being an amazing person."

"Having worked closely with Liberty for quite some time, I have had the opportunity to witness her exceptional skills, compassionate nature, and commitment to helping individuals navigate the challenges of grief.
Liberty possess an innate ability to create a safe and supportive environment. Her empathetic nature truly allows others to express their emotions openly and without judgement, fostering a sense of belonging and trust.
Having navigated her own journey through grief, Liberty has an uncanny ability to grasp the complex emotions that grief creates, and to respond with sensitivity and insight, allowing them to process their circumstances at their own pace while helping them discover healthy coping strategies."
