The Aftermath Conference
A National Gathering for Those Impacted by Homicide
September 11–13, 2026 | Gig Harbor, Washington
The Aftermath Conference, a national gathering for those impacted by homicide, will take place September 11–13, 2026, in the serene coastal community of Gig Harbor, Washington.
This three-day, in-person only event will bring together survivors of homicide loss to create space for connection and shared understanding in the wake of unimaginable loss.
This gathering brings together people who understand that grief is not a problem to be solved, but an experience to be witnessed. Over the course of the conference, we will explore grief through conversation, reflection, and shared presence. You’ll hear from voices who speak honestly about loss, resilience, and the complicated terrain that follows traumatic loss.
If you’ve been feeling the weight of what comes after - after the funeral, after the casseroles stop coming, after the world expects you to return to "normal", this conference is for you. We know that showing up to something like this can feel vulnerable, even intimidating, but rest assured knowing that this conference was founded by those who have personally experienced the ripple effects of homicide loss. We know, because we're walking this path also, and this conference aims to transform isolation into belonging.
This is an in-person only gathering and will not be live streamed or recorded. We’ve made this choice intentionally, out of deep respect for privacy, presence, and the tenderness of what will be shared. The Aftermath Conference is not meant for the world at large - it is meant for us, for those who are willing to show up fully and be in the room together.
To protect the integrity of this space, attendance is by application only. Submitting an application does not guarantee an invitation, but helps us thoughtfully shape a group where safety, care, and mutual respect can be held with intention.
Take advantage of our early bird pricing: conference tickets are $200 through May 31, after which the rate increases to $250.
Registration closes on August 1 and space is limited to 75 attendees.
Attendees are responsible for their own travel and accommodation. Dinner will be provided at the conference the night of September 12. Complimentary snacks will be available all three days.
If you are interested in attending, please send an email to aftermath.of.homicide@gmail.com and we will respond with a link to a questionnaire.
This conference was created by, and is being facilitated by, Jan Canty, PhD and Liberty Henderson, CA. Both women are highly credentialed professionals and homicide survivors who bring deep personal insight and lived experience to this work.
